3D Scratchpad Shapes
3D Modeling with Primitive Solids
Using basic shapes to build 3D models makes 3D Scratchpad an easy-to-use, accessible tool. Many useful, fun, and interesting models are created from simple primitives such as cubes, tubes, cylinders, and others.
Adding New Shapes
Tap the Add Shape

button to add a new shape, and select from the available primitives.
In both Object and AR Modes, new shapes are placed in the model directly in front of the camera.
Shape Properties
Upon selecting a shape type, you will be presented with the Info screen, which is used to modify the properties of a shape:
Each shape has an editable name, which must be unique within the model. 3D Scratchpad will assign a name to new shapes. Shape names must contain only upper- and lower-case letters, numbers, and single underscores.
Each shape type has a set of values which define the geometric properties of the shape:
Box
Width - Height - Depth - Chamfer Radius
Capsule
Height - Cap Radius
Cone
Height - Top Radius - Bottom Radius
Cylinder
Height - Radius
Frustum
Height — Top Radius — Bottom Radius — Facets
Sphere
Radius
Text
Text - Font - Size - Depth
Torus
Ring Radius - Pipe Radius
Tube
Length - Outer Radius - Inner Radius
Appearance
Use the controls under Appearance to change the color, texture, or “skin” of your shape:
Base Color
Base Color is the color used when a shape doesn't have an associated image.
Image
3D Scratchpad can wrap an image around a shape to create a wide array of characteristics and details.
Select an image from your Photos, Files, or use your front or rear Camera to capture an image.
3D Scratchpad creates a square image to use within the 3D model. Guidelines superimposed upon selected images show the portion of an image which will map to a particular shape feature.
Since the values defining the geometric properties of a particular shape control the mapping between an image and a 3D shape, it is best to set the image properties before you pan and zoom an image or take a photo.
Once an image is used in a model, it can be used for multiple shapes by selecting it from This Document instead of Photos, Camera, or Files. The size of the saved .usdz file can be minimized with careful re-use of images.
Roughness
Use this slider to change the amount of roughness (or shininess) of the appearance of the shape.
Metallic
Use this switch to give your shape a metallic appearance.
Position, Rotation, and Scale
Set the Position, Rotation, and Scale independently for the X-Axis, Y-Axis, and Z-Axis.
